Hurricanes Sign a Pair
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have signed forwards Drew Englot and Jacob Boucher to Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreements.
Englot, 14, will turn 15 on November 26th. He was selected by the Hurricanes in the fourth round (76th overall) in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft. The 2002-born forward spent the 2016-2017 season with the Notre Dame Hounds Bantam AAA where in 30 games he registered 14 points (4g-10a) along with 34 penalty minutes. The 6’3”, 180-pound forward added two points (1g-1a) in four post-season games. Englot also appeared in six games with the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League where he was held pointless with 12 penalty minutes.
“We really like Drew’s passion for the game. He plays hard all the time and he’s a big strong guy that’s really hard to play against,” said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. “He’s going to go back to a real good program in Notre Dame to play Triple-A Midget to be able to prepare himself to come here and play.”
Boucher, 15, was drafted by the Hurricanes in the ninth round (187th overall) in the 2017 Bantam Draft. The 5’7”, 136-pound forward registered 43 points (19g-24a) along with 60 penalty minutes in 36 games in 2016-2017 with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers Bantam AAA. He added five points (1g-4a) with 10 penalty minutes in 14 post-season games helping the Rangers win the Alberta Bantam Hockey League Championship over the Lethbridge Golden Hawks. Boucher also appeared in the Alberta Cup last year where he totaled four assists in five games.
“Jacob loves to play the game and has a passion for the game. We think that he has some real offensive upside and he plays the game at a high level with lots of speed and lots of compete,” added Anholt. “He doesn’t shy away from the physicality, but he plays smart because of his size and is hard to play against.”
Englot and Boucher join Noah Boyko, Bryan Thomson and Jonah Regier as the five players from the 2017 Bantam Draft to already be signed to Standard Player Agreements by the Hurricanes.
