RECAP: Hitmen Secure Points in Last Five With 5-1 Win Over Hurricanes
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen wrapped up the weekend with a 5-1 victory over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Calgary opened the scoring in the first period with newly acquired forward Blake Vanek netting his first goal in a Hitmen uniform. Caine Wilke followed up on the power play to give Calgary a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
Lethbridge pushed back in the middle frame, but the period remained scoreless. The Hurricanes finally got on the board early in the third period when Owen Berge scored to cut the deficit to one.
Ethan Moore restored Calgary’s two-goal lead with five minutes remaining, scoring his 15th of the season. Moore added an empty-net goal just over a minute later to provide further insurance. The Hitmen weren’t done yet, as Rylan Ng capped the scoring with Calgary’s fifth goal with five seconds remaining.
The Hitmen now have points in five straight games and improved their record to 21-10-5-1, placing them fourth in the Eastern Conference.
Calgary concludes their three-game homestand on Wednesday, Jan. 14 welcoming the Tri-City Americans. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome. The Hitmen then return to B.C. for games in Kelowna on Friday, Jan. 16 and Penticton on Saturday, Jan. 17.
