RECAP: Hitmen Complete Thrilling Comeback Victory in Brandon
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen picked up their third straight win on their four-game East Division road trip with a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings. Down 4-1 in the third period, the Hitmen stormed back with four unanswered goals to win in regulation.
Ty Meunier opened the scoring for Calgary with his 10th goal of the season on the power play. Brandon’s Jaxson Jacobson responded with a power play goal less than five minutes later, evening the score at 1-1 heading into the second period.
The middle frame belonged to Brandon, as Luke Mistelbacher and Jacobson scored back to back goals to give the Wheat Kings a 3-1 lead heading into the third period. Jacobson completed his hat trick just under two minutes into the third, extending Brandon’s lead to 4-1.
Calgary quickly mounted a response. Andrei Molgachev wasted no time getting the Hitmen back in the game, scoring his 20th goal of the season to cut the deficit to 4-2. Ethan Moore followed up minutes later, collecting a rebound off a Molgachev shot to pull Calgary within one. With three minutes remaining, Julien Maze scored on the power play to tie the game, before Harrison Lodewyk netted the go ahead goal just 45 seconds later to give the Hitmen a 5-4 lead with 2:09 remaining in regulation. Calgary would hold on the rest of the way to secure the comeback victory.

With the win, the Hitmen improve to 28-13-6-1, further distancing themselves from the Wheat Kings in the standings, sitting fourth in the Eastern Conference.
The Hitmen Road trip has one stop remaining and that’s tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 7 in Regina against the Pats. Game time is 6:00 p.m.(CT), 7:00 p.m. (MT). Calgary then returns home to play seven of their next eight games beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 11 against the Swift Current Broncos in a 7:00 p.m. start at Scotiabank Saddledome.
