Everett goaltender Andy Desautels stopped Vancouver’s James Henry on a penalty shot with 9.8 seconds left in the game to secure a 2-1 victory for the Silvertips. Vancouver finishes the pre-season 2-3.
Josh WInquist opened the scoring on the power play in the first period, beating Mark Segal to make it 1-0 Everett.
In the second, Alex Theriau made it 2-0 for the visitors, once again with the man advantage, this time on a 5-on-3. Everett goalie Luke Siemens stopped all 20 shots he faced in his 40 minutes of action.
Down 2-0 heading into the final period, the Giants finally managed to get on the board with less than 6 minutes left in the game as Tyler Hart scored his first of the exhibition season. Things got interesting in the final moments as Everett was penalized for dislodging the net with 9.8 seconds left resulting in a penalty shot. James Henry had the honours, but was unable to solve Andy Desautels. The Silvertips hung on to win 2-1.
Vancouver will open the WHL regular season next Friday at home vs. the Chilliwack Bruins. Game time is 7:30pm. The first 5,000 fans at the Pacific Coliseum will receive a BC division mini banner in recognition of the club’s 5th straight BC division title.
