Prince George Runs Over Vancouver
The Vancouver Giants were shutout for a 2nd straight game losing 8-0 at the hands of the Prince George Cougars Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum. The Giants have now lost a season high 5 straight games. They have been outscored 24-3 during that stretch.
Vancouver came out with a ton jump in the first period, controlling the play for the first 10 minutes. They looked to take advantage of power play just past the midway point, instead it was the Cougars who converted, scoring a shorthanded goal to give them a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes of play. Vancouver outshot Prince George 9-5 in the opening frame.
The Cougars took over in the second period scoring three goals, two off the stick of Charles Inglis to go up 4-0 after two periods of play. Vancouver managed just 5 shots on net. That would be the end of the night for Mark Segal who allowed four goals on 20 shots.
The third period was even worse for Vancouver as Prince George beat Brendan Jensen 4 times on 12 shots to win 8-0. Charles Inglis finished with 3 goals and an assist for the Cougars. The Giants had just 2 shots in the period. Ty Rimmer needed to make only 16 saves for the shutout. With the loss and a Kelowna win on Friday night, the Rockets clinch the B.C. Division title ending Vancouver’s five year run. The Giants do remain 3 points up on Chilliwack for 5th in the Western Conference.
Vancouver will be back at it tomorrow night when they head to Chilliwack to take on the Bruins in the 10th and final meeting of the season between these B.C. Division rivals. Game time is 7:00pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30pm on AM 650.
