Giants Get Shutout 5-0 in Edmonton
The defending WHL champions are on a roll. The Edmonton Oil Kings won their 4th straight game on Saturday night, second straight by shutout, blanking the Vancouver Giants 5-0.
Tristan Jarry stopped all 24 shots he faced to lead the way for the Oil Kings, who got a power play goal from Cody Corbett one minute and 44 seconds into the game. Corbett added an assist later in the game, and was one of five Edmonton players with multi point games.
After giving up an early power play goal, the Giants shut down the league’s number one power with seven consecutive kills, including a full two minutes of five on three. Edmonton finished 1 for 8 on the power play, the Giants were 0 for four.
Jared Rathjen stopped 28 of 33 shots in his Giants debut and his first game back in the WHL since October.
The Giants will play their third game in three days in Calgary on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 3 pm, the pre-game show on the Team 1040 starts at 2:30.
