Ronning and Popowich Named Player Coaches for Hockey School
The Vancouver Giants announced on Tuesday that forwards Ty Ronning and Tyler Popowich will be player coaches at the club’s annual Hockey School in August.
“I love giving high fives, and I love having fun,” said Ronning. “I enjoy working with the kids and putting smiles on their faces. It’s just an awesome experience seeing each kid get better every year.”
Ronning, a Burnaby native, played minor hockey at the Burnaby Winter Club. After leading the Giants in goals with 31 last season, he was selected by the New York Rangers in the seventh round of the 2016 NHL Draft.
Popowich, who hails from Surrey, is set to enter his rookie season in the WHL. The 16-year-old was the third overall selection in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft and spent last season playing Midget hockey at the Okanagan Hockey Academy.
“It’s a great experience for the kids and a really fun time overall,” said Popowich. “It’s great to take part in the hockey school as part of the Giants organization and to give back to the community.”
Ronning and Popowich will join instructors Lawson Boutilier, Giants Head Coach Jason McKee and Giants Assistant Coach Tyler Kuntz.
The Giants are proud to once again host the Vancouver Giants Hockey School at the Ladner Leisure Centre from August 15-19, 2016 for boys and girls in H1, H2, H3/H4, Atom, Pee Wee, and Bantam. There will also be a Defenceman Camp, Scorers Camp, and Adult Conditioning Camp. The Vancouver Giants Hockey School is a high tempo camp designed to help improve each player’s game. In order for players to get the hands-on learning and individual attention, the camp will have a 5:1 ratio (5 kids to 1 coach). All participants will receive a Vancouver Giants Hockey School T-Shirt and a Vancouver Giants practice jersey.
