Quinn Inducted Into IIHF Hall of Fame
Late Giants co-owner Pat Quinn was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation’s Hall of Fame at a ceremony on Monday in Moscow.
“Of all the people I’ve known in the game of hockey, I never met anyone who worked at it harder or loved it more than Pat Quinn,” said Wayne Gretzky.
Quinn, who passed away in November, 2014, won an Olympic gold medal, a World Junior Championship, a World Under-18 Championship and World Cup of Hockey while also winning a bronze medal at the World Championship. He is the only coach to win medals at five different levels of international play.
Quinn received the Order of Canada in 2012. He was also a two-time Memorial Cup winner and a two-time recipient of the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s Coach of the Year.
“My father always said they don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,” said Quinn’s daughter Kalli. “He cared but he also wanted to know as much as he could about the game of hockey.”
Other members of the 2016 induction class included former NHLers Sergei Fedorov, Peter Bondra, Valeri Kamensky and Ville Peltonen along with American coach Ben Smith.
