PREVIEW: Giants Face Portland for 2nd Time This Weekend on Sunday
PORTLAND, OR – The Vancouver Giants (12-15-1-1) look to bounce back from a tough 8-2 road loss on Saturday night in Everett when they face the Portland Winterhawks (15-12-0-0) on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Prior to Vancouver’s defeat on Saturday, they had won three straight for the first time this season thanks to superb goaltending: Burke Hood has stopped 94 of 99 shots in his last two starts – wins over Everett and Portland – and Kelton Pyne made 46 saves on 48 shots in a 3-2 SO win over Penticton in his last start on Nov. 28.
The Giants are 4-3-1 in their last eight.
Portland is also playing their third game in three days and is coming off a come-from-behind 4-3 win over their biggest rival Seattle at home last night. The Winterhawks are 7-2-0 in their last nine and 8-4-0 on home ice this season.
The Giants beat Portland at home two days ago 3-2 thanks to a goal from Ty Halaburda on the power play with 12.4 seconds left in regulation.
