Giants Sign U.S. Prospect Sparks to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement
Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Giants are excited to announce the signing of 2008-born forward Tyus Sparks (Meridian, ID) to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
The 5-foot-11, 174 lb. forward was the Giants first round pick (8th overall) in the 2023 U.S. Prospects draft and spent this past season playing for the 15U Windy City Storm, where he produced 33 goals and 20 assists for 53 points in just 37 games.
His 33 goals were tied for second on his team, despite playing in 15 less games than goal leader Nathan Hauad, who had 35 goals in 52 games. Sparks had nine goals and 12 points in the final six games of his season.
“Tyus is an offensively talented player who has consistently put up big numbers wherever he plays,” Giants General Manager Barclay Parneta said. “We are happy he has chosen to sign with us to continue his development.”
The right-shot forward began the 2023-24 season with the L.A. Jr. Kings 15U AAA squad, scoring nine points in nine games (7G-2A) before transferring to the Storm. He played the entire 2022-23 season for the 14U Jr. Kings, where he scored 49 goals and had 90 points in 45 games. His 90 points were second on the Kings.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to play in the WHL with the Giants,” Sparks said. “I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my skills with this talented team.”
The recently turned 16-year-old attended fall camp for the Giants in 2023.
The Vancouver Giants would like to extend a warm welcome to Tyus and his family.
