The Vancouver Giants hit the road Monday night for 3 games in 4 nights vs. three central division teams the Giants have had a ton of success against.
Sitting atop the B.C. division standings with a record of 8-5-1-1, the Giants kick off the trip in Lethbridge Wednesday night. The Hurricanes are currently 5-4-0-3 on the season. Vancouver heads into the game with an 11 game unbeaten streak vs. Lethbridge (10 wins and a tie). A streak so long, it pre-dates the shootout and includes a tie. The Giants haven’t lost to the Hurricanes since December 28, 2004, when they fell 3-2 at the Pacific Coliseum.
On Friday they will be in Red Deer to take on a Rebels team that sits in first place in the central division with a record of 9-5-0-0. Red Deer features B.C. boy Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who is expected to be one of the top picks in next year’s NHL entry draft. The Giants though have won 7 straight games over the Rebels. Their last loss came back on November 1, 2006 at the Enmax Centrium, when the Rebels won 4-1.
The final stop on the trip is in Edmonton on Saturday night. After a great start to the season in which they won five of their first seven games, the Oil Kings have struggled losing 6 in a row. Their record sits at 5-7-0-1 on the season. Vancouver has dominated the Oil Kings since they came into the league in 2007, winning all 6 games these two teams have played. In those six games the Giants have outscored the Oil Kings 29-to-7.
