Cougars Fall to Thunderbirds in Seattle, Look to Rebound Sunday
KENT, WA – It was not the start to the road schedule the Prince George Cougars had hoped for. The Cats fell 8–0 to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday at the accesso ShoWare Center, marking Prince George’s first loss in Seattle since December 13, 2022.
The opening period featured plenty of physicality and strong goaltending at both ends. Seattle broke through at 18:06 when Brennan Hocher scored following a Thunderbirds faceoff win. Shots were tied 11–11 after 20 minutes.
At 5:53 of the second period, Minnesota Wild prospect Kayden Lemire dropped the gloves with 6-foot-7 defenceman Reko Alanko. Lemire landed a couple of right hands before taking Alanko down. Seattle went on to score five times in the period to build a 6–0 lead.
With the Thunderbirds ahead 5–0, Alex Levshyn’s night came to an end and Peyton Shore entered the game. Seattle scored on a breakaway just 10 seconds later, prompting Cougars head coach Mark Lamb to call a timeout. Prince George trailed 6–0 after two periods.
Seattle added two goals in the third to complete the 8–0 win. The Cougars fall to 1-2-0-0 and will look to earn a weekend split Sunday against the Vancouver Giants.
