Cougars at the Euro Draft Table
The CHL’s European Import Draft is underway today and tomorrow, and the Cougars have already been busy at the table. Before the draft even took place, the Cougars traded their 11th overall Euro pick to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for the Canes’ 14th overall Euro pick and their 6th round 2004 Bantam Draft pick.
rThe Cougars used the trade to secure their selection of Russian Stanislav Bolshakov (6’1”, 175 lbs, shoots right, born Feb/ 11/1986). Bolshakov is a left winger who played as an under-ager in the Russian finals for the 1985 age group. He came highly recommended to the Cougars by three separate NHL clubs.
rThe Cougars weren’t done dealing. After selecting Bolshakov, the Cougars traded their 4th round 2004 Bantam Draft pick to the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for the Kings’ 51st overall Euro pick this year. That selection will be made later today. r
