CHIEFS STRIKE QUICKLY IN 6-3 WIN AT SASKATOON
The Spokane Chiefs scored 3 goals in the first 3:08 of the game and went on to beat the Saskatoon Blades 6-3 Tuesday night in Saskatoon, SK. The 6 goals scored were the most by the Chiefs in 2015 and was the most registered by the team since a 10-2 win at Tri Cities New Year’s Eve. Kailer Yamamoto led the team offensively as he broke a 10 game scoreless streak with a goal and 2 assists. Liam Stewart potted two goals and Adam Helewka added a goal and an assist.
Helewka would start the scoring with his team leading 29th goal of the year just 22 seconds into the game to make it 1-0 Spokane. The Chiefs Jacob Cardiff would rifle home his 3rd of the season at 1:07 to put the team up 2-0, and then Jackson Playfair scored his first goal since New Year’s Eve at 3:08 to give Spokane a 3-0 cushion. Saskatoon would score 23 seconds after Playfair’s goal to cut the lead to 3-1 after one.
In the second period, Yamamoto would score his 17th of the season at 6:45 to put the Chiefs up 4-1. Stewart would put home his first goal of the game and 18th of the year at 7:08 to give Spokane a commanding 5-1 advantage. Saskatoon would score two power play goals, one midway through the second, and the other late in the third period to cut the Chiefs lead to 5-3. Spokane would seal the win when Stewart would score his second of the contest on an empty netter at 18:19 to secure Spokane’s 5th straight win over Saskatoon.
The Chiefs are now 2-1 on their 6 game Eastern Division road trip. Spokane will next head to Prince Albert to take on the Raiders Wednesday night at 5pm.
