Chiefs add forward Mitchell Kohner on loan
Spokane, Wash. — The Spokane Chiefs announced on Tuesday that they have acquired forward Mitchell Kohner on a one-year loan agreement with the Prince George Cougars.
“This is a unique situation where an American player wasn’t able to rejoin his team due to COVID restrictions and with the loss of Jack Finley to injury, we had a spot available,” said general manager Scott Carter. “It ends up being a win-win as we can bring in a player with WHL experience to help mentor our young guys and Mitchell can continue his development in our league. We’re excited to welcome him to Spokane.”
Kohner, a 2002-born winger from Rosemount, Minn., has 108 WHL games under his belt over two seasons with the Cougars. He set career highs last year with eight goals and six assists for 14 points in 59 games. He was originally a 10th-round pick by Prince George in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
“We’re happy to find Mitch a spot to play and continue his development this season,” said the Cougars’ general manager and head coach Mark Lamb. “We look forward to tracking his progress in Spokane.”
Kohner will arrive in Spokane today and need to pass through seven days of WHL COVID protocols before beginning to practice with the team. Following the 2020-21 season, his playing rights will return to Prince George.
He will wear jersey number 19 with Spokane.
