Chiefs acquire forward Carter Streek from Saskatoon Blades
Spokane, Wash. — The Spokane Chiefs announced on Thursday that they have acquired forward Carter Streek (2004) from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft. Streek has suited up in 21 career games for the Blades, including six this season.
“With all of our long-term injuries up front, Carter will be a nice addition,” said Scott Carter, Spokane Chiefs General Manager. “We are excited to have him join us and looking forward to him being a Chief.”
Streek, 17, was originally drafted in the fourth round (80th overall) by the Portland Winterhawks in 2019 after an impressive season with Yale Hockey Academy’s midget prep squad. In 33 regular season games, the 5-foot-7 Kamloops native scored nine goals and posted 19 assists for 28 points, including six points (2G-4A) in the regular-season finale on March 1 against Okanogan Hockey Academy. He added two assists in two CSSHL playoff games before the COVID-19 pandemic put an end to the season.
In October 2019, Streek was named to Team BC’s U16 squad and earned a bronze medal in the annual WHL Cup in Calgary. He began his WHL career in Saskatoon during the abbreviated 2020-21 season.
The Chiefs have been inundated with injury concerns, with six players (five forwards) listed on the latest WHL Weekly Report, including four with “week-to-week” or longer estimates for return.
Thursday’s move puts Spokane at 26 rostered players, including 16 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies.
