Cheveldayoff, Weinstein to attend NHL development camps this week
Spokane, Wash. — Spokane Chiefs forward Ty Cheveldayoff (2003) and defenseman Saige Weinstein (2005) will be back on the ice this summer at NHL development camps. Cheveldayoff will attend the Vegas Golden Knights’ camp, while Weinstein will be at the Colorado Avalanche’s camp.
Development camps start this weekend and run throughout the week.
F Ty Cheveldayoff, Vegas Golden Knights
Cheveldayoff, a 6-foot-3 winger from Stony Plain, Alberta, set new career highs across the board in his third season as a Chief after posting 43 points on 20 goals and 23 assists over 59 games played — more than doubling his 19 total points from the year before.
Cheveldayoff was a consistent force for the Chiefs last season, averaging 0.73 points per game — up from 0.32 in the 2021-22 season.
Cheveldayoff was originally listed by Spokane in 2020.
D Saige Weinstein, Colorado Avalanche
Weinstein, a 6-foot-1 defenseman out of Edmonton, Alberta, finished his second full season with the Chiefs with 18 points on four goals and 14 assists — all new career highs. With 121 WHL games under his belt, the blueliner has 32 total points (5G-27A) and 175 penalty minutes. After winning the team’s 2021-22 Rookie of the Year Award, Weinstein finished as the Chiefs’ third-highest-scoring defenseman this season, behind team captain Raegan Wiles and overager Mac Gross.
Last summer, Weinstein helped Canada win gold at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup alongside 11 fellow WHL players.
Weinstein was ranked 132nd among North American Skaters in the NHL’s Central Scouting Service’s final rankings and was originally Spokane’s first-round pick (18th overall) in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.
