Game Notes @ Regina – Dec 4

The Teddy Bear Toss didn’t go quite as planned for the Swift Current Broncos as they were shut out by the Everett Silvertips, 6-0. The Silvertips would kick off the scoring with two goals in the first.  Silvertips’ Kellan Tochkin would score three consecutive goals, leaving the game with a hat trick.  After 40 minutes of play it would be a 4-0 game and the Broncos would start off the third with a goalie change, replacing Mark Friesen with Derek Tendler.  Unfortunately, the game would finish with a score of 6-0 in favour of the Everett Silvertips. The Broncos outshot the Silvertips 39-37.  On the man advantage, the Broncos were 0/6 and the Silvertips were 1/5.  With the loss, the Broncos four game winning streak comes to an end.  The Broncos fall to sixth place in the Eastern Conference, one point behind the Moose Jaw Warriors and four behind the Medicine Hat Tigers.

NUMBERS: Stepan Novotny leads the team with 14 goals…Justin Dowling leads the team with 26 assists and 37 points…Graeme Craig leads the team in penalty minutes with 53…Dowling is 4th in the league in assists with 26, tied for 2nd in the league in power play assists having 15 and 12th in points with 37…Mark Friesen is 1st in the league in minutes played (1570), and 2nd in saves (782) and wins with 15, and he is tied for the 2nd in shutouts (3)…Friesen is 11th in the league in goals against average (2.98).

ON THE ROAD: The Broncos are 6-7 on the road this season.

REGULAR SEASON VS REGINA:  This will be the fourth out of eight times that the Broncos and Regina Pats meet this season.  So far, the Broncos have lost to the Regina Pats every time they’ve met this season.  The Broncos are currently in third place in the East Division, one point behind the Moose Jaw Warriors and 11 behind the Saskatoon Blades.  The Regina Pats sit at 6th place in the East Division, five points behind the Brandon Wheat Kings and Prince Albert Raiders.  5 year record: 18-18-1-2

ROSTER: The Broncos roster currently consists of 25 players. The team has 3 – 20 year old players, 9 – 19 year old players, 4 – 18 year old players, 8 – 17 year old players and 1 – 16 year old player. Geographically, 12 Broncos are from Alberta, 2 are from Manitoba, 4 are from Saskatchewan, 4 are from BC, 2 are from the Czech Republic and 1 is from Arizona. There are 5 rookies and 20 veterans on the roster.

INJURY REPORT:  Brenden Silvester is out indefinitely with a back injury…Tanner Muth is week-to-week with a fractured clavicle…Stepan Novotny is week to week with a sprained MCL.

UPCOMING GAMES:  The Broncos head to British Columbia to take on the Chilliwack Bruins on Dec.7th @ 10:30 am 12:30pm SK Time).  Then, the Broncos face the Kelowna Rockets on Dec.8th.
