Broncos Defeat Thunderbirds
The Swift Current Broncos tallied a quick pair of back-to-back shorthanded markers in the third to take a 4-3 edge over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds.
The Broncos would dominate the first period on the shot clocking outshooting the Thunderbirds 12-5, but Seattle’s Taylor Green would open the scoring late in the frame to make it 1-0 Thunderbirds after one.
Minutes into the second period Graham Black would convert on the Broncos third power play of the evening to lock the contest up at one. Play would remain tied until the 17 minute mark of the period when Seattle’s Seth Swenson would revive their one goal lead on his fourth of the season.
Seconds into the third period, Black would come back for more tallying his 8th of the season and tying the contest up for the second time. Richard Nedomlel would be called for Checking From Behind early in the final frame forcing the Broncos onto the penalty kill, but the momentum would turn to the Broncos favour as both Adam Lowry and Chance Lund would tally back-to-back shorthanded markers to give Swift Current their first lead of the night. Around the midway mark of the period Thunderbirds’ Riley Sheen would cut into Swift Current’s lead on his fourth of the year. Seattle would pull netminder Brandon Glover in the dying seconds of play for the extra attacker, but the Broncos would deny all scoring chances resulting in a 4-3 final.
The Broncos outshot the Thunderbirds 30-17 and went 1 for 4 on the man advantage.
