SWIFT CURRENT BRONCOS (1966 to 1970)
Brian was born Jan. 23/49 in Leader, SK to Adam and Jean Dickie. He was brought up on a farm 9 miles North of Sceptre, SK. At the age of 10, Brian and the family moved into the town of Sceptre, where he went to school and played hockey and baseball. In 1963 at the age of 14, Brian was invited to the Melville Millionaires training camp by Cliff Jacobson, a Toronto Scout.
In 1964 while playing for the prelate Mustangs, Brian was added to the Regina Pats Midget “A” team. That team won the provincial championship that year. He also played for the Regina Pats Jr. B team that year. In 1965 at Christmas, Brian was called up to play for Regina Pats Jr. A, coached by Bob Turner. Brian scored his first junior goal that year against Chris Worthy of the Flin Flon Bombers.
In 1966, Brian was moved to Swift Current to join the Broncos as an expansion team. Brian was the leading scorer that year. In 49 games, he scored 34 goals and 27 assists for 61 points. He was also team M.V.P that year. In the first game of 1967-68 season, Brian received an eye injury in Calgary. His production dropped off that year, scoring 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points in 53 games. In his final year in 1969-70 with the Broncos, he scored 30 goals and 37 assists for 67 points in 59 games.
The 1970-71 season saw Brian play for the Calgary Stampeders Senior Hockey Club. He had a good rookie season, scoring 28 goals with 24 assists for 52 points in 40 games. The Stampeders went to the Allan Cup Finals that year but lost to the Galt Hornets.
The 1971-72 season saw Brian play for Salzburg, Austria in the Austrian “B” Division. They won the division and moved up to the “A” division the next year. Brian was the leading scorer and M.V.P. that season.
The next two season (1972-73, 1973-74) saw Brian play in Flint, Michigan in the IHL. In January of 1974, Brian moved to Cranbrook, BC to play with the Cranbrook Royals of the Western Canadian Senior League. The Royals won the West and went on to play in the Allan Cup finals against the Barrie Flyers. Barrie won the series 4-2. Brian played the next 6 years for the Royals, ending a very satisfying and productive career.
Brian still played Oldtimers Hockey four times a week. He stays in shape and continues to have lots of fun playing.
Brian married Donna (Brandhagen) on June 26, 1971 in Swift Current, SK. That fall they went to Salzburg, Austria for the winter. The next two seasons were in Flint Michigan and then on to Cranbrook, BC.
Brian and Donna have two daughters, Kristina and Karen. Kristi married our son in law Jason in 2000. They have two daughters, the light of our lives, Hanna (5) and Makenna (2). Karen is single and they all live and work in Calgary, AB.

Another passion Brian has is horse racing. Brian and Donna, along with good friends, the Ferg brothers, have been owners since 1990. The horses run in Calgary and Edmonton under the name “Kootenay Royal Stables”.
Brian was also a member of the Swift Current Indians ball club from 1966-71.
