Nelson Nogier Listed By NHL Central Scouting
A big year is on the horizon for Saskatoon Blades defenceman Nelson Nogier.
The second year member of the team has quite a few new responsibilities now that he’s considered to be one of the veteran players on a young squad. Nogier went from being a bottom pairing defender last year to playing nearly top minutes this season. The Blades 2012-13 Rookie Of The Year and Top Scholastic Player also has the role of being a newly named alternate captain.
Along with that, it’s NHL Draft year.
That part of his season got off on the right foot on Monday morning as Nogier was recognized as a “B” skater on NHL Central Scouting’s preliminary Players To Watch List.
The list is an outline of which of hockey’s prospects might be worth paying attention to ahead of the 2014 NHL Draft. The list is broken down into A, B, C skaters and goaltenders. Seven WHL skaters were listed as “A” players, including Kootenay’s Sam Reinhart and Prince Albert’s Leon Draisaitl. Nogier was one of seven WHL players to be listed as “B” skaters.
Nogier’s draft year started a little earlier than it would in most years, as he was chosen to attend Team Canada’s selection camp ahead of the Ivan Hlinka tournament back in July. The tournament is seen as a starting point to the NHL Draft’s scouting season.
“It was a really good experience overall,” Nogier said after the event. “It definitely helped me grow as a player, to gain confidence throughout the camp.”

The 2014 NHL Draft will be held June 27th and 28th, 2014 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
