Hamilton Invited to Team Canada Selection Camp
Saskatoon, SK – Today Hockey Canada announced its invites to the National Junior Team Selection Camp which will take place in Toronto this December. Among the 17 WHL players invited to camp is the Blades’ Curtis Hamilton. The 19-year-old Kelowna, BC native has led the Blades’ scoring attack this season, amassing 36 points (15G, 21A) thus far. The 6’3″ left-winger also leads the WHL’s plus/minus category with a +27 rating.
Blades Head Coach and GM, Lorne Molleken, commented, “We are extremely proud of Curtis and he is very deserving of this opportunity. He has faced some adversity and has overcome some injuries in the past few seasons, and he has worked extremely hard to warrant this invite.”
Of the 39 players invited, 17 are currently playing in the Western Hockey League, including the Spokane Chiefs’ Jared Cowen who helped Canada earn the silver medal at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship in Regina and Saskatoon, SK. Other notables include the WHL’s current leading scorer Linden Vey (Medicine Hat Tigers), first WHL player selected at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft Ryan Johansen (Portland Winterhawks), reigning WHL Defenseman of the Year Tyson Barrie (Kelowna Rockets) and top rated prospect heading into the 2011 NHL Draft Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (Red Deer Rebels). On a local note, Saskatoon product Carter Ashton (Regina Pats) also received an invite to camp.
