Blades Prospect Alex Ozar Signs SPA
Saskatoon, Sask. — The Saskatoon Blades are pleased to announce the signing of 2002 born defenceman Alex Ozar to a Western Hockey League standard player agreement.
“Alex is right-shot defender who plays the game with a very high hockey intelligence,” explained Saskatoon Blades director of scouting, Dan Tencer. “He’s able to quickly process the game and has the ability to execute plays at a high pace in all situations. His mobility and play with the puck are both significant assets for him and he has shown substantial development over the last season and a half.”
Ozar is currently in his second season with his hometown Midget AAA Prince Albert Mintos of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. As a rookie last season, Ozar put up 31 points in 44 games. This season, the 6’0″ tall blue liner has matched his goal total from last year with 5, and already has 21 points and 60 penalty minutes in 26 games.
Now the captain of the Mintos, Ozar becomes the 5th player from Saskatoon’s 2017 draft class to sign a contract. Alex was selected in the 5th round, 109th overall. Alex will turn 17 on January 24th.
“We’re proud of the work that he’s put in and we’re excited to have him as part of our future plans,” added Tencer.
