Blades lose 4-3 in Regina

The Regina Pats scored the lone goal of the first period as Matt Streuby was able to slip a shot past Blades goaltender Adam Morrison mid-way through the first period.

The Pats extended the lead to 2-0 early in the middle frame on a goal by Tomas Hricina. The Blades finally got on the board at the 9:01 mark of the 2nd when Burke Gallimore scored his 1st of two goals on the night to draw the Blades to within one goal.

The Pats once again took a 2 goal lead in the third period as Matt Streuby collected his 2nd goal of the game on a wrap around that beat Morrison to the post. Derek Hulak collected his first goal of the year less then 2 minutes later to once again get the Bridge City Bunch back to within one goal. With the Blades net empty and with only 20 seconds left in regulation time, Burke Gallimore pounced on a rebound to knot the game at 3 and force the extra frame.

Neither team scored in the additional 5 minutes of play, despite the Blades being on a power-play for the final 1:47 of overtime. Despite having already contributed with 3 points apiece in the game, neither Burke Gallimore or Derek Hulak were able to beat rookie Pats netminder Dawson Guhle in the shoot-out, while the Pats were able to sneak 2 shots by Morrison to secure their first victory of the year.

The Blades finished the game 0 for 10 on the powerplay and 2 for 2 on the penalty kill. Adam Morrison turned aside 22 of 25 Pats shots picking up the shoot-out loss.

The Blades next game is Friday September 25th, when the Edmonton Oil Kings visit Credit Union Centre. Friday is also Fridge magnet Night and the first 3000 fans in the door will receive a Blades magnet schedule courtesy of the Dakota Dunes Casino, Conexus Credit Union, Home Depot, and Great Western Brewing.

SWIFT CURRENT, SK – The Swift Current Broncos announced on Friday that they have signed prospect Codey Eakin.

rEakin, a 5’10Â?, 165 lbs. forward was the Broncos 1st round selection in the 2006 WHL Entry Draft, selected 6th overall. Eakin spent last season with the Winnipeg Monarchs (Bantam AAA) where he recorded 34 goals in 29 games and was 5th in league scoring with 59 points.
