Blades acquire, sign forward Carter Streek from Winterhawks

SASKATOON, SK – The Saskatoon Blades have struck a deal with the Portland Winterhawks to acquire 2004-born forward Carter Streek in exchange for a fifth-round pick, originally belonging to the Victoria Royals, in the 2020 Western Hockey League Bantam Entry Draft. Following the trade, Streek put pen to paper on a Standard Player Agreement with the Blades, and is expected to compete for a full-time roster position at training camp this fall.

“Carter is a fast and competitive player,” said director of scouting Dan Tencer. “He plays the game with a relentless energy and has a skill level that allows him to make significant offensive contributions. His style of play will fit in very nicely with our young core of forwards.”

Drafted in the fourth round, 80th overall by the Winterhawks in 2019, Streek is coming off an impressive season with Yale Hockey Academy’s midget prep squad. In 33 regular-season games, the 5’7″, 155lbs forward from Kamloops, BC scored nine goals and 19 assists for 28 points. Streek, 16, saved his best for last, stacking up six points (2G, 4A) in the regular-season finale on March 1st against Okanogan Hockey Academy. He added two assists in two CSSHL playoff games before action was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last October, Streek was named to Team BC’s U16 squad and captured a bronze medal in the annual WHL Cup in Calgary.

Streek also dressed in one game with the Vernon Vipers, making his BCHL debut on December 13th in a 2-0 victory over the Penticton Vees.
