NEWS: Two Blades to represent Canada at World U17 Tournament
Saskatoon, SK – Two members of the Saskatoon Blades have been selected to the top 66 players representing Hockey Canada’s three teams competing in the upcoming World Under 17 Hockey Challenge. Forward Kirby Dach and goaltender Nolan Maier will be donning the maple leaf on home soil from November 5th – 11th in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, British Columbia.
The tournament consists of eight teams including Team Canada Black, Red, and White. Russia, Finland, Sweden, Czech Republic, and the United States make up the remaining five teams attending.
Pre-tournament games begin on Thursday, November 2nd, with the gold and bronze medal games taking place on Saturday, November 11th.
Dach, in his first full season with the Blades leads the team in rookie scoring with a goal and two assists in five games. Nolan Maier, currently with the SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers, has an .884SV% through three games in the SJHL. Maier has seen a ton of rubber averaging 43 shots against in just three appearances with the Terriers.
Hockey Canada has only announced the top 66 players which will be split into three teams. The three team rosters are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Last year, Blades centre Chase Wouters took home a silver medal with Team Canada Black at the tournament; Sweden won gold.
