The Saskatoon Blades (4-0-0-0) hunt their fifth straight win when they take on the Swift Current Broncos (1-3-0-0) at InnovationPlex.
A loss is unknown to the Blue and Gold this season who are a perfect 4-0. It’s only the second time in franchise history the Bridge City Bunch have won four straight to start the season. Fans have to go all the way back to the 1975-76 season as the only other time the club has achieved this start.
The Blades are the only remaining undefeated team in the WHL this season. Half of their wins have come against the Broncos in a opening weekend home-and-home series. Saskatoon defeated Swift Current Sept. 20 on the road 4-1 and followed with a 9-3 thumping the next night at SaskTel Centre.
Saskatoon’s latest victory came Wednesday against the Calgary Hitmen at the Scotiabank Saddledome 5-3.
Who to Watch
Rookie forward Cooper Williams has points in his first four career WHL games. The Calgary, AB product finished with one goal and an assist Wednesday in Calgary, giving him two goals and seven points in four contests. The 6-foot sniper was drafted by the Blue and Gold in the second round (41st overall) during the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
20-year-old defenceman Grayden Siepmann scored his first regular season goal with the Blades Wednesday since being acquired on October 10, 2023. The right-handed shot went 72 games without a regular season goal. Siepmann scored in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final last spring against the Moose Jaw Warriors, and a preseason goal against the Brandon Wheat Kings last month. The Langley, BC product has points in three straight games (1G, 2A).
Sophomore center Hudson Kibblewhite set the bar high with a between the legs goal Wednesday for his first of the season. The Vernon, BC native was named first star in contest, finishing with a goal and an assist. The 6-foot-1 forward scored the Blades lone powerplay goal on four attempts vs the Hitmen.
