The Saskatoon Blades (8-1-1-0) hunt their fifth straight win Saturday when they visit Peavey Mart Centrium to face the Red Deer Rebels (5-3-1-0).
Five unanswered goals from the Blue and Gold Thursday at Rogers Place led to a 6-2 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings. Nashville Predators prospect Tanner Molendyk put on an offensive clinic with a goal and three assists in the win. Saskatoon’s won four straight games and have at least a point in their last five. It’s the second four-game win streak of the season for the Bridge City Bunch who sit first in the WHL with an 8-1-1-0 record.
Saskatoon completed a four-game sweep of the Rebels in Round 2 of the WHL playoffs last spring, but split the regular season series 2-2.
Who to Watch
Tanner Molendyk’s four-point performance earned him third star across the CHL Thursday. The 5-foot-11 defender has back-to-back multi-point games (2G, 4A) and owns seven points (2G, 5A) in four games this season. The 19-year-old spent the first six games of the season up with the Predators for training camp and preseason.
19-year-old forward Rowan Calvert has points in eight straight contests. The Moose Jaw, SK native has seven goals, five on the powerplay, and four assists in that span. Calvert finished Thursday’s contest with a powerplay goal and an assist, giving him eight goals and five assists in ten games this year.
2007-born rookies David Lewandowski and Jordan Martin scored their first career WHL goals in Thursday’s win against Edmonton. Lewandowski’s came on a powerplay in the second period, giving the German import a goal and an assist through his first three games in North American. Martin blasted a one-timer in the third period for his first goal, joining his two assists in ten games this season.
