BLADES INK TOP PROSPECTS
SASKATOON, SK – The Saskatoon Blades announced today at a press conference that the team has officially signed 2016 WHL Bantam Draft 2nd overall pick, Kirby Dach (left), and 2016 3rd round pick, Zach Ashton (right) to Standard Western Hockey League Player Agreements.
Dach, a 6’1″, 170lb centre from Fort Saskatchewan played as an underage player for the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers Midget AAA, recording 14 goals, 21 assists, and 12 penalty minutes in 34 games played.
“It’s amazing, it’s a surreal experience,” said Dach. “I’m very excited to be part of the Saskatoon Blades organization and I can’t wait to put on the jersey for real and step out on to the ice.”
Ashton, a 5’9.5″ offensive defenceman played for the Calgary Bisons Bantam AAA club where he posted 15 goals and 26 assists to go along with 24 penalty minutes in 36 games.
Blades Managing Partner, Colin Priestner was ecstatic to have gotten Ashton at the spot the Blades did.
“We were crossing our fingers for 15 straight picks that he would be there to get him and we were very fortunate that we did.”
“His arrow just went upwards all year long.” added Priestner.
“I’m just really excited for the future ahead of me,” said Ashton. “Dream come true for sure, I couldn’t ask for anything else.”
