Jack Brodsky was born in Winnipeg, MB in 1952 to Nathan (deceased 1996) and Marie Brodsky, and moved to Saskatoon with his family in 1965.
He spent his summers working for Brodsky Construction, the family business, from 1961 until 1970 when he became a part owner of the company.
Brodsky graduated from Aden Bowman Collegiate Institute in 1971 and went on to graduate from the Saskatchewan Technical Institute, as a Civil Engineering Technologist, in 1978. After graduation, he returned to work for the family business, Brodsky Construction Ltd, in various capacities until 1996 when the company ceased operations.
He received the Canadian Construction Association Gold Seal Certification in Project Management in1996.
Jack has been a co-owner of Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League since 1976 and has served as President and Governor of Blades since 1992.
He is currently serving in his 10th term on the WHL Executive Committee; he serves as Chairman of the WHL Education Committee and is a member of the WHL Finance Committee. He also represents the WHL as a member of the Saskatchewan Hockey Association Board of Directors. As such, he was a founding member of the committee that created the Saskatchewan Development Model, a unique partnership between elite hockey development leagues in Saskatchewan that serves to ensure smooth movement of players through the system, based on what is the best situation for the player and his development.
Jack is currently Chair of the Board of Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation and also serves on the Audit and Finance Committee for that organization.
In 2012, Jack was named as the Chair of the Board of Tourism Saskatchewan.
From 2007 to 2010, he served on the Board of Directors of Saskatoon Sports Tourism.
Being a member of the Rotary Club of Saskatoon since 2000, Jack served on the Rotary Club World Community Service Committee. He is currently on the Board of the Rotary Restorative Action Program and is Chair of the RAP Fundraising Committee.
In the fall of 2007, Saskatoon’s B’nai Brith Lodge #739 honoured him by presenting him with their “We’re Proud of You” award. Other awards include Canada’s Commemorative Medal for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee (2003), the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce award for Member of the Year, and the Saskatoon Club Member Recognition Award (2007). Jack was also recently recognized by Saskatchewan Business Magazine as one of the Men of Influence in Saskatchewan.
For the years of 2005, 2006 and 2008 Jack served as a mentor with the Raj Manek Mentorship Program.
Jack was President of the Bid Committee and subsequently President of the Host Organizing Committee for the Saskatchewan 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship. In this position he worked with a large number of community leaders across the province in producing a highly successful event.
He is currently Co-Chair of the Host Organizing Committee for the 2013 Mastercard Memorial Cup Tournament which will be held in Saskatoon in May of that year.
He also serves on the Board of Directors and was a founding member of the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame which officially opened in Swift Current on July 28, 2012.
Jack is a Past President of the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Board of Governors of Junior Achievement from 2006 until 2011.
He enjoys hockey as well as football and other sports. His hobbies include cooking, wine tasting, as well as collecting and drinking fine wines.
Jack and his wife Shirley have three children, John – 27, David – 25, and Heather – 23. They reside on a ¼ section of land four miles west of the city where Shirley raises horses. In the summer they spend their time enjoying their cabin on Christopher Lake.
Jack also has three grown up children from previous marriage, two boys, Erik, Schad, and a daughter Jesse.
Jack and Shirley are also proud grandparents to four beautiful girls, Kylie, Shealyn, Kennedy, and Delaney.
