GAME 1 RECAP | Saskatoon Blades Spoil Raiders Home Opener
Prince Albert, SK – The Saskatoon Blades opened the 2022-23 WHL regular season in Prince Albert Friday night with a 5-2 victory over the Raiders.

The Blades started off hot, scoring two in the first period to lead 2-0 heading into the second. Aidan De La Gorgendiere and Egor Sidorov were the goal scorers for the Blades in the first. De La Gorgendiere played most of the pre-season on the power play, after returning this year from a season ending injury last season. Sidorov missed all of pre-season due to injury but scored a beautiful goal that saw the forward pick the corner to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the second period the Raiders clawed their way back, scoring two consecutive goals to tie the game 2-2. The teams remained deadlocked at two before heading to the third period.
In the final frame, it was all Blades hockey. The team out of Saskatoon would add three goals, one an empty netter, to extend their lead with a minute remaining. Sidorov skated hard towards the net to redirect the puck in from in front of the blue paint to take the lead 3-2. Charlie Wright would add to the lead with only three minutes remaining to extend the lead to two goals. Vaughn Watterodt would add an empty netter to complete seal the game.

The Blades return home on Saturday night for their home opener. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm, with pre-game festivities starting at 4:00 pm outside SaskTel Centre.
