Blades Triumph in Raider Re-Match
With a more well-rounded scoring effort tonight, the Blades were able to rebound from last night’s 3-1 loss in Prince Albert to conquer the Raiders on home ice, 6-2.
The Blades first line of Josh Nicholls, Jake Trask and Curtis Hamilton put up two goal (Hamilton from Nicholls and Trask; and Nicholls from Hamilton) and combined for five points in the first period, giving the Blades a 2-0 lead heading to the locker room. Hamilton and Nicholls each scored and all three players received credit for an assist. Darian Dziurzynski and Tyler Yaworski both received majors for fighting in the first frame.
Lukas Sutter waited 23 games to score his first goal last night and now finds himself on a two-game scoring streak. He scored his second WHL goal 5:33 into the second period, assisted by Dziurzynski. The Raiders finally got their first point of the night from right-winger Andrew Herle only to see the Blades regain their three point lead as Hamilton put a loose puck in the net for his second goal of the night. The home team led the Raiders into the third period, 4-1.
Brandon Herrod opened the scoring in the third period with his twelfth goal of the season (six of which have been against the Blades). In the second half of the third, Matej Stransky and Jake Trask each scored their fourth goals of the season to stretch the Blades’ lead to four goals. There were a series of fights in the last two minutes of the game between the two rivalry teams, Ruopp and Dietz, Siemens and Connor, and Herle and Sutter all received fighting majors.
The Blades leave town for their BC division road trip on a good note, after defeating the Raiders 6-2 on home ice. They have now boarded the bus and are head westward to BC on their longest road trip of the season – during which they will where they will play five away games.
