Examiner.com: Meet the Ams — Marcus Messier
By Rene Ferran | Examiner.com
Marcus Messier has learned the value of patience during his rookie season with the Tri-City Americans.
The 16-year-old, drafted in the second round of the 2009 bantam draft, has sat out 18 of 43 games as a healthy scratch, and when he does get to suit up, he gets maybe two to three shifts a period to try and impress the coaching staff.
“It’s been a bit of a change from last year,” Messier said. “It’s something to get used to, not being the key guy and having to fight for chances, and when I get them, having to get the most out of it.
“I’m getting better playing against much better players than I would in midget. I’ll be more prepared for next year, the speed of the game, the atmosphere, the bigger crowds.”
Messier has made the most of his limited ice time, although his numbers (two goals, two assists) don’t really tell the story.
