The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Joel Broda of the Moose Jaw Warriors is the Boston Pizza CHL Player of the Week for the week ending September 28 after scoring six points including five goals and one assist in three Warriors victories.
Broda made an immediate impact in his Warriors season debut Wednesday night returning from the Washington Capitals training camp. He netted a shorthanded goal to earn first star recognition in a 4-3 win over the Prince Albert Raiders. Broda was again named first star of the game Friday night with two goals and an assist in a 6-3 win on the road against the Brandon Wheat Kings. Broda and the Warriors returned home to beat the Wheat Kings Saturday night rallying from a two goal deficit to win 5-2. Broda had two goals in the game and was the third star. He recorded a plus-4 plus-minus rating on the week.
The 18-year-old from Prince Albert, SK is a 2008 fifth round selection of the Washington Capitals.
Luke Pither of the Guelph Storm was the OHL nominee for his three goals and three assists for six points in three games, leading the first place Storm to three weekend wins. The QMJHL nominee was Shawinigan Cataractes’ forward Nicholas Petersen who also led his team to three wins including a 7-1 win over the Victoriaville Tigres Tuesday night where Petersen collected five points. He finished the week with three goals and four assists for seven points.
