2019 NHL Draft Profile – Kirby Dach

A top draft-eligible player, Kirby Dach was under the spotlight this season with the Saskatoon Blades and impressed with a 25-goal, 73-point campaign that saw him finish two points shy of the team lead in scoring despite missing six games. On the international stage, the native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., starred with Team Canada at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, coming away with seven points in five games to help guide the Great White North to a gold medal victory. Dach is the third-ranked North American skater in NHL Central Scouting’s Final Draft Rankings.

Dach describes himself as a 200-foot, playmaking centre who sees the ice well and creates space for his linemates. He likens his game to Calgary Hitmen graduate Ryan Getzlaf, given that both are rangy pivots who play a pass-first style. Dach’s offseason objective is to work on his explosiveness, noting that improving his separation speed will help him make the step to the next level.

According to Sportsnet’s Sam Cosentino, “(Dach is) a beast of a man who is bound and determined to be a pro.”
