Tigres’ Yanni Gourde Named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that for the second time this season Yanni Gourde of the Victoriaville Tigres is the CHL Player of the Week. For the week ending February 5 he scored two goals and six assists for eight points in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.
Gourde, the QMJHL’s leading scorer, becomes the first player to win the award twice this season after recording two four-point games. He picked up four assists despite an 8-7 overtime loss to the Rimouski Oceanic on Wednesday, and then scored two goals and two assists on Friday as first star of a 6-1 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
Gourde, a 20-year-old from St-Narcisse, Quebec, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season with the Tigres. Through 53 games so far this season he has 29 goals and 70 assists for 99 points.
Also considered for the award this week was Dominik Uher of the Spokane Chiefs who scored six goals and three assists for nine points in four games, and Brandon Saad of the Saginaw Spirit who scored three goals and four assists for seven points in three games.
