Sea Dogs’ Zack Phillips Named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that 2011 NHL Entry Draft prospect Zack Phillips of the Saint John Sea Dogs is the CHL Player of the Week for the first week of CHL playoff action ending March 27. Phillips, who claims the award for the second time this season, scored four goals and four assists for eight points in two games.
Phillips has helped the Sea Dogs to a 2-0 series lead over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the opening round of the 2011 QMJHL Playoffs. He was named the first star of Game one with four goals and an assist in a 10-0 win on Friday, and then picked up three assists in the Sea Dogs’ 7-1 win over the Screaming Eagles in Game two on Saturday.
Phillips, an 18-year-old from Fredericton, NB, finished seventh in QMJHL scoring during the regular season recording 38 goals and 57 assists for 95 points in 67 games. Phillips was ranked 12th overall by NHL Central Scouting in their midterm rankings for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Christian Thomas of the Oshawa Generals was also considered for the award after scoring three goals and six assists for nine points in three games. Brett Ferguson of the Red Deer Rebels had five points in two games scoring one goal and four assists.
