Remparts’ Francois Brassard named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Ottawa Senators prospect Francois Brassard is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 17 after posting two shutout victories in two starts for a perfect 2-0-0-0 record along with a goals-against-average of 0.00 and save percentage of 1.000.
Brassard stopped all 56 shots he faced last week and now leads the league with four shutouts while the Remparts now sit in sixth place in the QMJHL standings with 31 points. Last Wednesday night Brassard made 27 saves against the first place Blainville-Boisbriand Armada backstopping the Remparts to a 6-0 victory which was just the Armada’s third regulation loss of the season. Brassard followed that performance with a 29-save effort and first star honours in a 4-0 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes on Friday. Brassard now has eight career shutouts with the Remparts, tying the team record set by Louis Domingue.
Brassard, a 19-year-old from Gatineau, Quebec, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Remparts. Selected by the Senators in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Draft, Brassard has a 9-5-2-2 record with a goals-against-average of 2.97 and save percentage of .908 this season.
Also considered for the award this week was OHL Player of the Week Alex Fotinos of the Windsor Spitfires who posted a 3-0-0-0 record with one shutout along with a goals-against-average of 1.67 and save percentage of .951. In the WHL, Landon Bow of the Swift Current Broncos posted a 1-0-0-1 record with a 1.44 goals-against-average and a .952 save percentage.
