Tuesday May 12, 2015
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Arizona Coyotes prospect Anthony Duclair of the Quebec Remparts is the CHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending May 10 after recording six points in three games scoring three goals and three assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.
Duclair had back-to-back multi-point performances for the 2015 MasterCard Memorial Cup hosts to open the QMJHL Championship Series for the President Cup against the Rimouski Oceanic. In Game 1 of the series last Tuesday night Duclair scored twice with an assist as part of the Remparts’ 7-4 victory, then scored once with two assists in Game 2 on Friday earning second star honours in the 4-1 win. He was held without a point in the Remparts’ 4-2 loss in Game 3 on Sunday, with Game 4 scheduled for Wednesday night in Quebec.
Duclair, a 19-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, is playing in his fourth career QMJHL season with the Remparts. Originally selected by the New York Rangers in the third round of the 2013 NHL Draft, Duclair became an Arizona Coyotes prospect as part of a trade earlier this season. A member of Canada’s National Junior Team that won gold at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, Duclair is tied for sixth in QMJHL Playoff scoring with 22 points in 18 games including eight goals and 14 assists.
Also considered for the award this week was Vancouver Canucks prospect Cole Cassels of the Oshawa Generals who scored once with two assists in the first three games of the OHL Championship Series against the Erie Otters, and 2015 NHL Draft prospect Nick Merkley of the Kelowna Rockets who scored twice with one assist for three points in the first two games of the WHL Championship Series against the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Generals currently lead their series 2-1 against the Otters, while the Rockets lead the Wheat Kings 3-0 with Game 4 in both series scheduled for Wednesday night.
