Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Darcy Kuemper of the Red Deer Rebels is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 10. Kuemper posted a 4-0-0-0 record earning two shutout victories with a goals-against-average of 0.850 and save percentage of .967.
Kuemper and the Rebels began a four-game road trip last Tuesday night with a 6-0 win over the Swift Current Broncos. Kuemper made 20 saves and was named the game’s third star recording his first of two shutouts on the week. On Wednesday night in Regina, Kuemper entered the game midway through the second period trailing 4-2 to the Pats and would allow just one goal making 14 saves as the Rebels stormed back to grab a 6-5 overtime win. On Friday night he would earn first star honours with 29 saves in a 4-2 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings, before finishing the week Saturday with his second shutout as first star making 25 saves to blank the Moose Jaw Warriors 3-0.
Kuemper, a 20-year-old from Saskatoon, SK, is playing in his third full WHL season with the Rebels. Selected in the sixth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild, his 7-2-0-0 record this season has earned the Rebels 14 points where they stand first in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.
Olivier Roy of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan earned two wins including one shutout this week while posting a goals-against-average of 0.960 and save percentage of .968. Brandon Foote of the Guelph Storm was also considered after winning one of his two starts but posted a goals-against-average of 0.970 with a savepercentage of .975.
