Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Tye McGinn of the Gatineau Olympiques is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 5. McGinn played six games recording 13 points including six goals and seven assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

McGinn tied a franchise record on New Year’s Eve with five assists in a 7-1 victory over the Lewiston MAINEiacs on Thursday night. He added a goal as first star of the contest with his first career six-point game. His week was also highlighted by his first career hat-trick including the game-winning goal scored in a 5-4 win over the Val d’Or Foreurs on Sunday. He added an assist for four points as first star of the game. In addition, his week included two goals with the game-winner on Monday as second star of a 3-2 win over the Montreal Juniors. He contributed an assist in a 4-1 loss to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and was held scoreless on Wednesday in a 6-4 loss to the MAINEiacs and in his first game following the winter break on Sunday December 27 in a 7-5 loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes.

McGinn, a 19-year-old from Fergus, ON, is playing in his second QMJHL season with the Olympiques. He currently leads his club in scoring with 21 goals and 24 assists for 45 points in 36 games.

Also considered for the award this week was forward Zack Torquato of the OHL’s Erie Otters and Kevin Connauton of the WHL’s Vancouver Giants. Torquato led the OHL with 10 points in four games including five goals and five assists, while Connauton also collected 10 points but did so in five games with four goals and six assists. Both players had one game-winning goal
