Olympiques’ Simon Tardif-Richard named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Simon Tardif-Richard of the Gatineau Olympiques is the CHL Player of the Week for the first week of playoff action ending March 23 after scoring four goals and three assists for seven points in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-9.
Tardif-Richard tied for the league’s scoring lead last week helping the eighth place Olympiques take advantage of home-ice with a pair of victories against the ninth place Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in first round QMJHL playoff action. On Friday night in Game 1 he produced a career-high five points scoring his first career hat-trick including a shorthanded goal to put his club on the board followed by the game-winner to earn first star honours in the 7-2 win. In Game 2 on Saturday night he was one of five Olympiques to record a multi-point performance scoring once with an assist as part of the 8-2 win giving the club a 2-0 series lead.
Tardif-Richard, a 20-year-old from Hull, QC, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season and second with his hometown Olympiques. This season he scored 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points in 55 games.
Also considered for the award this week was Hunter Smith of the Oshawa Generals who scored once with six assists for seven points in two playoff wins against the Mississauga Steelheads in the OHL’s Eastern Conference.
