Oil Kings’ Tristan Jarry named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Tristan Jarry of the WHL champion Edmonton Oil Kings is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff period ending May 13 after posting a 4-0-1 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 2.34 and save percentage of .932.
Jarry backstopped the Oil Kings to four wins in the final five games of the WHL Championship Series helping the club win their second Ed Chynoweth Cup in three years with a 4-3 series victory over the Portland Winterhawks. Jarry stopped 165 shots over the five games including a 32-save performance in the Game 7 series finale won 4-2 by the Oil Kings clinching a berth in the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup where they will open competition against the OHL champion Guelph Storm on Saturday. Jarry also made 35 saves despite a 6-5 overtime loss in Game 6 of the series on Sunday, and made 37 saves as second star of a 3-2 win in Game 5 of the series on Friday. He also posted his third shutout of the playoffs last Wednesday with 26 saves as second star of a 2-0 win in Game 4, and made 35 saves as first star of a 3-2 win in Game 3 last Tuesday.
Jarry, an 18-year-old from Delta, BC, is playing in his third career WHL season with the Oil Kings. Selected by the Penguins in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft, Jarry won all 16 games in goal for the Oil Kings during the playoffs posting a goals-against-average of 2.19 and save percentage of .925. During the regular season he led the WHL with 44 wins tying for first with eight shutouts while leading the league with a goals-against-average of 2.24 and was among the leaders with a .914 save percentage.
Also considered for the award was Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Antoine Bibeau of the Val-d’Or Foreurs who won three of his final five games with a goals-against-average of 3.46 and save percentage of .918 helping the Foreurs capture the President Cup as Playoff MVP in their seven-game series against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. In the OHL, Justin Nichols won three straight games for the Guelph Storm in a five-game series win over the North Bay Battalion to capture the Robertson Cup posting a goals-against-average of 2.04 and save percentage of .907.
