Toms’ OT heroics lead Quinte into Quarter-Finals
Ethan Toms scored one of the biggest goals of the Quinte Red Devils season, pushing them into the OHL Cup Quarter-Finals 2:09 into overtime as they defeated the Waterloo Wolves 2-1 in their Round Robin finale.
Waterloo’s Jack Martin (1) opened the scoring but it was Quinte’s Beckett Ewart (2) who would tie the game at one early in the second, leading the teams into overtime.
“Brandon Rogers gave me a good breakaway pass. We’ve had four overtime games this year and didn’t win a single one, we deserve this. It feels extra special that it happened at the OHL Cup,” said Toms.
Toms’ overtime winner earned him Player of the Game for Quinte, while netminder Noah Bender took home the honours making 14 saves for the Wolves.
Goaltender Michael McIvor was a difference-maker for the Red Devils, helping his team prevail despite being outshot 25-16.
The Wolves’ tournament comes to an end as Waterloo finishes with a record of 1-3, being led in scoring by Nolan Shaw who finished with three points. (2-1–3)
The Red Devils will face off against the Toronto Marlboros Saturday at 10:30am in Quarter-Final action.
