Poddubny’s late goal leads Kings over Panthers
Carter Poddubny (2, 3) went bar down midway through the third to give Thunder Bay the lead as the Kings picked up their first win, beating previously undefeated Sun County 3-2.
The Kings led 2-0 with goals from Easton Mikus (1) and Poddubny. However, Sun County would battle back to tie the game with two goals in the second period from Kieran McNally (2) and Matteo Vilardi (2).
Jadan Desormeaux and Lucas Bailey each picked up their second assists of the contest, setting Poddubny up for the game winner.
Describing his team’s effort in a big event like the OHL Cup, Poddubny said, “It’s a big event with lots of people, but we treated it like any other game. We wanted to win, we came out strong right from the start, and it was great to get the win.”
Thunder Bay finishes their OHL Cup with a record of 1-3, with Carter Poddubny (2-1–3), Jaden Desormeaux (1-2–3), and Easton Mikus (1-2–3) leading the Kings in scoring with three points each. Sun County will look to bounce back with a big game this afternoon against the undefeated Toronto Jr. Canadiens at 3:30pm.
