OHL 20 in 20 Futures Watch: Barrie Colts
A year removed from holding the first overall pick in the OHL Priority Selection, the Barrie Colts continued to build a stable of elite forwards.
Last year it was Ryan Suzuki, this year it’s Riley Piercey.
The 16th overall pick from the GTHL champion Toronto Marlboros may not enter the league with the same notoriety as Suzuki, however is capable of contributing at the next level in a variety of ways. The big winger was listed at over 6’2” and 186 lbs on draft day and scored 26 goals and 30 assists for 56 points in 59 games last season.
Piercey officially announced his commitment to play for the Colts in June.
Next up for Piercey is Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Development Camp from July 21-27 in Calgary where he will compete along with the club’s third round pick Eric Russell.
Russell was chosen 56th overall from the Vaughan Kings, just one spot ahead of local product Tyson Foerster who was the club’s second pick going 55th overall from the Barrie Jr. Colts.
