Tuesday Highlights: Storm, Generals push back on home ice
GUELPH 7 – KITCHENER 5
(KIT leads series 2-1)
A return to home ice was just what the Guelph Storm needed as Alexey Toropchenko (1), Zach Poirier (1) and Cedric Ralph (1) scored unanswered third period goals in a 7-5 comeback win over the visiting Kitchener Rangers. Poirier scored the winner with 1:45 left in the third period, tipping home a Mark Shoemaker point shot to get the Storm back into the series trailing 2-1. The back-and-forth game included other Guelph goals from Garrett McFadden (1), Barret Kirwin (1), Liam Hawel (1) and Nate Schnarr (1) as the Storm went 3-for-5 on the power play. Kole Sherwood (3, 4) led the way with a pair of goals for Kitchener while Logan Stanley (1), Givani Smith (2) and Riley Damiani (2) provided singles and Logan Brown had a pair of assists. Kitchener outshot Guelph 35-27 as Anthony Popovich made 30 saves in the Storm victory. The two teams are back at it in Guelph on Wednesday for Game 4.

OSHAWA 6 – NIAGARA 2
(NIAG leads series 2-1)
Kyle MacLean (1, 2) and Alex Di Carlo (1, 2) both scored twice while Kyle Keyser earned first star honours with 39 saves as the Oshawa Generals got back into the series, defeating the visiting Niagara IceDogs 6-2. The Generals rebounded from a 6-1 loss on Sunday with six goals of their own as Danil Antropov (1) and Renars Krastenbergs (1) also got involved. Jack Studnicka pitched in with two assists while Keyser picked up an assist of his own in the win. Akil Thomas (3) and Danial Singer (1) accounted for Niagara goals while Stephen Dhillon took the loss with 32 saves to his credit. The IceDogs carry a 2-1 series lead into Game 4 on Thursday night in Oshawa.

MISSISSAUGA 2 – BARRIE 1
(MISS leads series 2-1)
Florida Panthers prospect Owen Tippett (3) scored the game winner 3:06 into the third period as the Mississauga Steelheads skated to a 2-1 home ice win and a 2-1 series lead over the Barrie Colts on Tuesday. New Jersey Devils first round pick Michael McLeod (2) also found the back of the net as the Trout outshot the Colts 34-25. Goaltenders Jacob Ingham and Leo Lazarev both provided timely saves in the fast-paced affair as the seventh-seeded Steelheads held off the Central Division champion Colts to climb ahead in the series. Dmitry Sokolov (2) scored the lone Barrie goal while Lazarev made 32 saves in goal. Ingham earned third star honours, turning aside 24 shots in the Mississauga crease. Game 4 of the series goes Thursday in Mississauga.

SARNIA 5 – WINDSOR 3
(SAR leads series 2-1)
The Windsor Spitfires were less than five minutes away from victory before the visiting Sarnia Sting struck for three unanswered in a 5-3 road win. Sarnia takes a 2-1 series lead as Hugo Leufvenius (3) tied the score with four minutes left in the third before Jordan Ernst (1) got the winner on a pass from Cam Dineen with 2:33 remaining. Sean Josling (2) added an empty netter and finished with a goal and two assists while Drake Rymsha (2) and Theo Calvas (1) also provided Sarnia goals. The Sting outshot Windsor 38-17 and 15-2 in the third period as Spits netminder Michael DiPietro made 33 saves in the loss. Cole Purboo (4) had a goal and an assist for the Spitfires while Daniel D’Amico (1) and Connor Corcoran (1) also scored. The two teams are back in action on Thursday night for Game 4 of the series in Windsor.

KINGSTON 4 – NORTH BAY 1

Gabriel Vilardi (1, 2) and Jason Robertson (2, 3) paced the Kingston Frontenacs to a 4-1 road win over the North Bay Battalion, each registering two goals and an assist as the Fronts took a 2-1 series lead. The rare neutral site game took place in Sudbury due to scheduling conflicts at the North Bay Memorial Gardens. Jake Henderson (2) scored the lone Battalion goal as recently signed Carolina Hurricanes prospect Jeremy Helvig stopped 31 of 32 for the Frontenacs. Kingston went 2-for-3 on the power play and carry control of the series into Thursday night’s Game 4 back in North Bay.

HAMILTON 8 – OTTAWA 1
(HAM leads series 2-1)
The Hamilton Bulldogs used a four-goal second period to power past the Ottawa 67’s 8-1 on the road, taking a 2-1 lead in their first round series. Brandon Saigeon (4, 5) scored twice for Hamilton while Will Bitten (2), Nicholas Caamano (1), Isaac Nurse (1), Ryan Moore (1), Riley Stillman (2) and Arthur Kaliyev (1) also got in on the offence. Bitten finished the night with a goal and three assists while MacKenzie Entwistle and Matthew Strome each had two helpers. Hamilton outshot Ottawa 38-24 and went 4-for-4 on the power play. Mitchell Hoelscher (1) scored the lone Ottawa goal as the 67’s look for a better effort in Game 4 on home ice Wednesday night.
