Wednesday Highlights: Spirit stay strong on the road

 

SAGINAW 4 – SARNIA 2
The Saginaw Spirit continued their strong play on Wednesday in Sarnia, earning their fifth straight road win as veterans Mason Kohn (10) and Marcus Crawford (10) both had a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory. Seventeen year-old netminder Cameron Lamour turned in a 31-save performance to get the win while young forwards Max Grondin (3) and Blade Jenkins (14) also lit the lamp. Sarnia outshot Saginaw 33-25 as Calgary Flames prospect Adam Ruzicka had an assist in his return from the World Juniors while Sean Josling (12) and Drake Rymsha (19) scored goals. Saginaw improves to 20-13-3-0, extending their win streak to three games with victories in seven of their last 10. Sarnia drops a fifth straight decision, falling to 25-12-2-0. The Spirit have won all three of their meetings against Sarnia so far this season.

HAMILTON 7 – PETERBOROUGH 2
The East Division-leading Hamilton Bulldogs made the most of their opportunities, scoring seven times on 36 shots to defeat the visiting Peterborough Petes 7-2. Matthew Strome (22, 23) and Isaac Nurse (8, 9) both scored twice while Will Bitten (13), MacKenzie Entwistle (5) and Arthur Kaliyev (16) all recorded a goal and an assist. The Petes scored to pull within one down 3-2 inside the opening minute of the third before Hamilton proceeded to score four unanswered and pull away late. Kaden Fulcher made 26 saves for the Dogs as they improve to 24-8-3-3 with eight wins in their last 10 games. The Petes had a goal and an assist from Nikita Korostelev (16) while Zach Gallant (9) also found the back of the net. The Petes drop to 16-19-2-1 and sit fourth in the East Division.

MISSISSAUGA 5 – ERIE 3
The big names came to play on Wednesday in Erie as Florida Panthers prospect Owen Tippett (11, 12) scored twice, draft eligible forward Ryan McLeod (11) had a goal and two assists and big blueliner Nicolas Hague registered three assists in a 5-3 Mississauga Steelheads road win over the Otters. New addition Mathieu Foget (12) scored his first as a Steelhead while adding two assists while veteran forward Trent Fox (13) also tallied. The Trout went 3-for-4 on the power play and led 5-1 after two periods before Erie scored a pair in the final frame. Otters goals came from Kyle Maksimovich (21), Emmett Sproule (1) and Christian Girhiny (8). Mississauga’s Jacob Ingham made 24 saves to get the win, helping the Fish improve to 15-22-0-1, good for a third place tie with North Bay in the Central Division. The Otters fall to 12-20-5-1, four points back of fourth place Owen Sound in the Midwest.
