Tuesday Highlights: Hounds outlast Attack in Game 7

The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds outgunned the Owen Sound Attack in a Game 7 showdown that featured a combined 16 goals at the Essar Centre as Boris Katchouk led the way with three goals and an assist in a 9-7 victory. Falling behind 1-0, the Greyhounds quickly turned things around with three goals in one minute, eventually climbing out to a 6-1 lead before the Attack made things interesting late in the game. Trailing 8-3 beyond the midway point of the third, Owen Sound proceeded to score three straight and pull within a pair before the Hounds locked things down to advance to the Western Conference Championship Series. Sault Ste. Marie’s nine goals came on 34 shots as blueliner Noah Carroll (1, 2) scored twice and Taylor Raddysh (8) had a goal and three assists. Ryan Roth (1), Hayden Verbeek (4) and Barrett Hayton (5) also found the back of the net while Morgan Frost collected three helpers. Owen Sound had two goals and three assists from defenceman Sean Durzi (3, 4) while Brett McKenzie (7, 8) had two goals and a helper. Jacob Friend (1), Jonah Gadjovich (2) and Kevin Hancock (8) accounted for other Attack goals as the Bears went 2-for-3 on the power play and outshot the Greyhounds 36-34. Owen Sound’s season comes to an end as overagers McKenzie, Friend and Ethan Szypula played their final OHL contest. The Greyhounds advance to face the Kitchener Rangers for the Wayne Gretzky Trophy.
