Thursday Highlights: IceDogs gaining momentum
NIAGARA 6 – MISSISSAUGA 3
Though they’ve yet to make big headlines this season, the Niagara IceDogs have quietly been among the top teams in the OHL, earning their seventh win on Thursday in a 6-3 victory over the Mississauga Steelheads. The Dogs improve to 7-2-1-0, winning at home as five different players had multi-point outings led by Oliver Castleman (3) with a goal and two assists. First round selection Philip Tomasino (1) scored his first career OHL goal while on a rush down the wing while Danial Singer (4), Zach Shankar (2), Kirill Maksimov (5) and Elijah Roberts (1) also found the back of the net. 2018 NHL Draft prospect Akil Thomas had a pair of assists as the Dogs went 3-for-8 on the power play. Stephen Dhillon made 32 saves in the win as Niagara was outshot 35-29. Shaw Boomhower (3, 4) and Keean Washkurak (2) provided Mississauga goals as the Steelheads suffered their fourth straight loss and fall to 1-8-0-0.

SARNIA 8 – NORTH BAY 2
The Sarnia Sting chalked up their ninth straight win as St. Louis Blues prospect Jordan Kyrou (5, 6, 7) had a hat-trick and an assist in an 8-2 road victory over the North Bay Battalion. The Sting swarmed out to a 4-0 lead before the Troops had a chance to get going. Adam Ruzicka (9) and Brady Hinz (10) each had a goal and an assist while defencemen Theo Calvas, Connor Schlichting and rookie Jamieson Rees collected a pair of assists each. Ryan McGregor (3), Drake Rymsha (6) and Sean Josling (4) provided other Sarnia goals while Aidan Hughes made 38 saves in the crease. The Sting score at least six goals for the seventh time this season, improving to a league-leading 10-1-0-0 on the season. The Battalion suffer their seventh straight loss as veteran winger Justin Brazeau (5, 6) provided both goals. The Troops look to get back into the win column on Friday night in Mississauga while the Sting go for their 10th straight in Sudbury.

PETERBOROUGH 5 – WINDSOR 1
The Peterborough Petes were outshot 41-17 in Windsor on Thursday, but fine goaltending from Edmonton Oilers prospect Dylan Wells paved the way to victory as they defeated the Spitfires 5-1. Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Chris Paquette (2, 3, 4) netted his first OHL hat-trick in natural style, scoring three times in an overall span of 15:58. Adam Timleck (6) and Nick Robertson (3) also scored for Peterborough while veteran blueliner Matthew Timms had an assist in his return to the lineup after missing a month due to injury. Wells turned aside 40 shots on the night, surrendering the lone Windsor goal off the stick of defenceman Sean Day (1) on the power play with 1:04 left in the second frame. Peterborough’s fifth straight win places them atop the East Division with an overall record of 8-2-0-1.
